the bad weather did not slow down the fans of the Castello Circuit – ekuonews.it

The event, included in the Aci Storico “Wheels in History” circuit, inaugurated a year of celebrations and activities of the largest club in Abruzzo chaired by Carmine Cellinese

TERAMO – The uncertain climate did not stop the enthusiasm of the many Teramo people who yesterday, despite the moments of rain, participated with unchanged enthusiasm in the re-enactment of the Castello Circuit, the historic race that the Aci of Teramo led by president Carmine Cellinese wanted to propose it again in the capital to celebrate one hundred years of the birth of the Teramo Automobile Club which bears the date of 15 May 1924.

A special year therefore for which the Aci wanted to prepare the return of the “Castle Circuit” in the center of Teramo, a re-enactment which celebrates the glories of one of the most important car races held in Italy immediately after the war and which actively contributed to the development of war agencies.

The race, desired and organized by the Teramo Automobile Club in eleven editions ranging from 1949 to 1961, this year constituted the 2024 stage of “Wheels in History”, the format that carries the cultural heritage of vintage motoring in the most enchanting settings of Italy. The initiative follows the collaboration of ACI Storico with the association of the most beautiful villages in Italy and sees the Automobile Club of Teramo fully involved in the organization which, to celebrate its first century, on the initiative of president Carmine Cellinese, has decided to bring back a beautiful sporting season. Among the cars that embellished the event, 51 in total, there were the only Taraschi Urania, dating back to 1949, driven by Tazio, heir son of the driver and builder Berardo Taraschi, Teramo’s post-war protagonist in motor racing national sportsman; a 1955 Fiat 1100 TV Cabrio, a 1961 Alfa Romeo 2000 Touring, a very rare 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (with Zagato bodywork), and also a 1965 Lancia Flaminia Super Spor (also with Zagato bodywork) and finally a Fiat 501 SS from 1921. To embellish the setting of the circuit and the sports day, there is also an exhibition commemorating the centenary (28 roll-ups) curated by the journalist Paolo Martocchia and the notes of the Casoli di Atri band.

«All the greatest riders in the 750cc category and the most important manufacturers in Italy and Europe will participate at the Castello Circuit – explained Carmine Cellinese – it is an incredible story of sport and competition, of speed and passion, of roars of engines and trajectories closed to a thousandth of a second, all accompanied by public participation that has no equal in Abruzzo. For this race Teramo and Abruzzo have made themselves known throughout the world and this is why we have decided to combine the annual stage of Wheels in History with this event aimed at making 100 years of history of Aci Teramo shine, as well as the capital itself”.
