Cuneo: First reopenings from Friday 24th of Colle dell’Agnello

The provincial road of Colle dell’Agnello has been partially reopened to transit: the announcement from the Province of Cuneo.

Provincial road 251 of Colle dell’Agnello reopened from Friday for 5 km

The Province partially reopened to transit the other day, Friday 24 May, the provincial road 251 of the Colle dell’Agnello in the upper Varaita valley for a stretch of approximately 5 kilometers upstream of Chianale, from the former customs house (4,700 km) to Pian dell’Agnello (km 10,500) at an altitude of 2,114 metres. After inspections by provincial technicians, the conditions of the road are being verified where, in some higher sections, there are still a few meters of compacted snow to be removed. As every year, the roadway is also being repaired, with the removal of stones and debris, as well as restoring rainwater drainage and fixing road signs. The total opening of the road and the international crossing located at an altitude of 2,744 meters will be later as per agreements with the French authorities and also based on weather conditions.

The Colle dell’Agnello, the highest cross-border pass in the Alps, has great importance on a tourist, economic and commercial level not only for the Varaita valley, but for the entire provincial territory. Its practicability is in fact of fundamental importance for the economy and tourism of the Alpine regions overlooking this pass and is a priority for the Italian and French authorities.
