A journey into the colorful and fragrant world of edible herbs and flowers. This was the meeting “Herbs and flowers: all the aromas of a territory”, organized by the Prokalos company at the Plin spaces on the afternoon of Tuesday 25 June.

Enrica Vaschetti, architect and project manager of the Le Terre dei Savoia association, the food and wine journalist Paola Gula and the olfactory marketing expert Claudia Sepertino told the audience what herbs, flowers and essences mean not only for their specific professional skills, but how much these impact the world we live in on a daily basis, often without even realizing it.

From the projects with a cultural and socio-economic impact carried out by Le Terre dei Savoia, projects which find their cornerstone in that jewel of a museum display that is the Mùses of Savigliano, to the aromas of the kitchen, to end with the emotions and memories conveyed by our nose , the three speakers highlighted how everything around us is pervaded and permeated by perfumes and the raw materials that derive from them. Enrica Vaschetti illustrated the numerous activities carried out by the Savigliano association, culminating with the description of the network of essence gardens, the true pride of the Cuneo area. Paola Gula, thanks to her decades of experience in the food and wine and agri-food fields, instead spoke about the recovery of recipes from the true Piedmontese tradition, made of poor and mostly vegetable ingredients, just like wild garlic, aromatic herbs, acacia or elder. Finally, Claudia Sepertino, after a brief excursus on her singular career, spoke about the production and processing of perfumes, about how an essence can impact our experience and become characterizing, for better or for worse.

In closing, an olfactory “game” involved everyone present: thanks to some samples provided by Dr. Sepertino, the public and guests were challenged to guess the flowers and herbs at the base of the essential oils of lavender, helichrysum, lime and tomato leaves. Perfumes and aromas are the tireless guardians of our memory, knowing them and talking about them is a way to honor them and to talk about ourselves.

All events are held with the support of the CRC Foundation.
