Rome, 81-year-old killed in a shootout: the 28-year-old freed but under investigation for murder

The 28-year-old Sinti ethnic man investigated for the murder of the 81-year-old woman, killed with a gunshot on the afternoon of Thursday 23 May in via Prenestina, on the outskirts of Rome, is no longer under arrest. However, the man is under investigation for the same crime. In the meantime, the Flying Squad’s investigations continue, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, so that the dynamics of the event can be reconstructed and all those responsible can be identified.

The shooting in the outskirts of Rome

The shooting occurred last May 23rd in broad daylight, at the intersection of via Prenestina and via della Riserva Nuova. According to initial hypotheses, the 81-year-old may have been shot in the back by mistake while she was in the car with a friend, who remained unharmed. From an initial reconstruction, it would have been a chase between two cars. The shot that seriously injured the victim would then have come from one of the two vehicles. The investigations of the police flying squad coordinated by the capital’s DDA are focusing on a possible clash between Sinti groups. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old boy, who was stopped by the police yesterday on suspicion of having fired several shots, is being investigated for murder.
