On the occasion of the “Day of the Decorated”, the commemoration ceremony of the Brindisi pilot second lieutenant Antonio Caravaggio, Silver Medal for military valor, who died in Egypt during the Second World War, was held at the Brindisi Support Group of the Air Force.
The commemoration began with a conference and continued in the airport church with the celebration of the Holy Mass in which the local civil and military authorities took part.
“It was an honor and a privilege for me to be present and bring the greetings of the Province. Today we remember with deep respect and gratitude the courageous pilot who sacrificed his life for our homeland. And, in conjunction with the commemoration of the Capaci massacre, our thoughts also go to those who lost their lives in the fight against the mafia: they too, like our fallen pilot, fought for a free and just Italy”, declared the vice-president of the Province of Brindisi Antonella Vincenti.
The motivation with which Caravaggio was awarded the Silver Medal is the following: “Proven and capable pilot, he stood out for courage and daring in a new operational cycle by carrying out his precise attack, with dive flight, on armed enemy bases. During a violent battle, in an attempt to complete a mission, he was hit to death by strafing from the air.”
