Legnano: A medieval day at the Falcone-Borsellino Park

A medieval day at the Falcone-Borsellino Park in Legnano.

Medieval day… with a giant screen to follow the Palio even from a distance

This year’s Palio Sunday will be even richer: in addition to the historical procession through the streets of the center and the horse race at the Mari Stadium, the first edition of the Medieval Festival will also be staged the day after tomorrow. The green area in the heart of the city will be transformed into a medieval village… with a giant screen. The aim is to involve families and children, allowing them to experience the emotions of the parade and race even from a distance. So that the Palio is truly, increasingly, the celebration of all the people of Legnano.

Costumed re-enactment of the Battle with the participation of children

The day will open at 10am with stalls animated by people in period costumes, a giant screen to follow the Palio live and lots of entertainment for children. The medieval arts and crafts huts will remain set up until 6.30pm. At 11am, 3pm and 5pm there will be a costume re-enactment of the Battle of Legnano on 29 May 1176 (a crucial clash in the long war undertaken by the Holy Roman Empire to try to assert its power over the municipalities of northern Italy, which decided to put aside mutual rivalries, putting an end to the fifth and final descent into Italy of Emperor Frederick I Hohenstaufen), with the participation of children, which will see the Northern League forces engaged in the attempt to “avoid the victory of the terrible Barbarossa”. Each of the little ones who participate in the battle will be offered a child ice cream cone.
The giant screen will broadcast period footage, a round table and pre-show interviews from 1pm; interviews and images of the parade from 2.30pm and live coverage from the field for the parade and horse race from 3.30pm.

An unprecedented initiative by the Palio Foundation and Confcommercio

The medieval festival is promoted by the Palio di Legnano Foundation in collaboration with the city’s Confcommercio, it intends to involve families and children in particular and allow those who will not be at the camp to experience the emotions of the parade and the race
