FAMILY RECEPTION OF ASYLUM SEEKERS STARTS IN CATANIA – BlogSicilia

The “Welcome to Catania” project, promoted by ANCI and financed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (from the eight per thousand IRPEF fund donated by citizens to direct state management for the year 2017) to the Family and Social policies of the Municipality of Catania, and managed by the Consorzio Umana Solidarietà scs, in partnership with Terra e Sole La Rinascita scs and ALS MCL Sicilia, and in collaboration with the Community of Sant’Egidio – Sicily ODV ET and MCL Sicilia, announces a notice public for Measure B which provides for family placement through the identification of foster families willing to welcome asylum seekers or holders of international protection for a period of 5 months.

Citizens domiciled or resident in the social territorial area of ​​Catania who are Italian citizens, resident in the Municipality and who are couples with or without children or single people can apply as a “foster family”.

The profile required to become a foster family is the availability in one’s life and/or in one’s home to welcome an asylum seeker or a holder of international protection, showing sensitivity towards the vulnerability of people with socio-economic, linguistic disadvantages and cultural and recognizing the importance of otherness as a starting point for creating a more inclusive world.

Foster families will be provided with a reception dowry of €2,450 for the entire period of the project, paid on a monthly basis. Both families with previous experience and those with their first experience will receive specific training from the project team.
