San Giorgio in Ragusa, the processions begin

The spectacular exit of the patron saint from his church. The celebration of Vespers in Purgatory; the joyful and solemn return of the two fercoli, the simulacrum and the holy Ark, into the majestic Cathedral. And, again, the beautiful and characteristic “ballariata” of the simulacrum, that is, the simulation of the dancing ride set to music. And then the colors of the lights and fireworks. Not to mention the enchanting sounds and smells of the Iblean baroque festival. Which highlight the moving and engaging faith as well as the devotion that the people of Ragusa have towards San Giorgio. From tomorrow the city of Ragusa will be able to embrace the megalomartyr again.

The three processions that will closely affect the ancient city of Ibla will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We therefore begin on May 24th with the exposition, adoration and Eucharistic blessing from 10 to 12 in the cathedral under the banner of the verse from the Gospel of John which reads: “But to those who welcomed him, he gave power to become children of God: to those who believe in his Name”. At 5.30 pm the recitation of the Rosary, at 5.45 pm the holy mass animated by the young and very young group of Catholic Action with the participation of the bearers of the simulacrum of the patron Saint George. The procession will begin at 7pm, the first of three days, characterized by the majestic progress of the equestrian simulacrum and the Holy Ark. The itinerary of the procession will follow the following streets: Mother Church, Piazza Duomo, Corso XXV Aprile, Piazza Pola, Via Orfanatrofio, Largo Camerina, Via del Mercato, Piazza Repubblica, Corso Don Minzoni, Largo San Paolo, Via Giusti, Piazza Repubblica, church of the Holy Souls of Purgatory, where the Holy Ark will rest. And, again, the simulacrum will continue through Piazza Repubblica, Via del Mercato, Via apostle. Also tomorrow, as regards the recreational and cultural program, at 9.30 pm, in Piazza Duomo, there will be a musical show by “I picciotti di Vasco”, one of the most popular cover bands in Sicily by Vasco Rossi. Furthermore, again tomorrow, there will be the opening of the exhibition “San Giorgio and Ragusa: a journey through faith, history and art”. Patrizia Romano and Salvatore Cacciaguerra will exhibit at the San Vincenzo Ferreri auditorium.
