Flood in Prato, Bugetti: “The Region will check the situation in Santa Lucia”

The regional councilor for civil protection Monia Monni has undertaken to investigate the reports received from the citizens of Saint Lucia on the state of the post-flood areas and on the points considered critical with respect to the resistance of the Bisenzio flood wave which on the evening of November 2nd part of the town in this area north of Prato was flooded.

This was announced by Monni herself who met the citizens at the Santa Lucia club on Sunday 19 May with the centre-left mayoral candidate Ilaria Bugetti. Monni assured that any element, private or public, that constitutes a danger to plumbing safety will be removed or resolved. The technicians in the sector will decide this. Monni also said she was in favor of the expansion tank project in Canneto. And it is precisely on the planning of interventions to restore and strengthen hydraulic safety that the regional councilor has expressed more than one concern because she says she is sure that the reimbursements from the government, albeit late, will arrive (the 66 million euros approved seem slowed down by a flaw in form), but cannot do the same with the resources allocated to hydraulic works in the area.

“As a Region – explains Monni – we have presented an intervention plan of one billion and 100 million euros to the government – says Monni – but to date we have no response. I am therefore unable to tell you that next winter you will be able to sleep peacefully because there are no certainties about the resources. Rebuilding and strengthening is complicated with money, without it it will be very difficult.” This reconstruction plan includes interventions for 130 million euros in Prato. The Region and the Municipality are ready to do their part but the intervention of the State is necessary. Just as the coordination table proposed in recent weeks by Bugetti is fundamental to give a roadmap for the execution of the works.

Monni agrees on the table: “There is a before and an after November 2nd. – stated Bugetti – Nothing will be as before because what happened that night changes all the hydraulic parameters and classifications. An extraordinary commitment is therefore necessary to restore and build new hydraulic works. Just as it is essential to work side by side with the people who live in the area. We must give ourselves a method and priorities. Urgent sums are needed for hydraulic restorations and new interventions are needed which we will have to line up according to a technical scale that reflects the degree of necessity and safety”.

Regarding reimbursements, the Region paid its sums to 628 Prato families out of 1,247 beneficiaries for a total of almost 1.7 million paid. Others are underway and then there are almost 200 people “frozen” because they do not have an IBAN.

“The Municipalities, the Region, the bodies and the service companies have worked face to face to help families and businesses to restart and restore places with extremely urgent interventions. – concludes Bugetti – It’s not enough. To sleep soundly, the territory needs new works and the government must do its part. The hydraulic safety of our citizens and the productive fabric must be of national interest without looking at the political color of the entities involved”.
