Bitter interzone for the Under15s of Pistoia Basket Junior: qualification for the National Finals fades

It was already important to be present at such an event and it is for this reason that Pistoia Basket Junior also concludes the season in the best possible way with its Under15 Eccellenza team. In the Interzona group that was played in Tolentino, the young red and whites led on the bench by coach Eduardo Perrotta, achieved three defeats in as many outings but fought on equal terms, for long stretches, with more highly rated teams.

In the first match, the red and whites were beaten 72-81 by Olimpia Roma and lost their lives (top scorer Pascarella with 19 points, closely followed by Angelini with 17). Also an exciting challenge against Reggio Emilia which runs away in the initial stages and Pistoia Basket closes the gap but is unable to complete the comeback reaching 67-75 in the 40th minute (Angelini 19). However, chances remained even in the last match but Aquila Trento proved to be too strong and the third knockout arrived 66-83 (Angelini 20). What remains is the satisfaction of a good experience at a national level and an important journey completed in a largely positive season.

THE PRESENTATION The Pistoia Basket Junior season is far from over and, indeed, another new important event at national level is on the way after the Under19 Eccellenza Finals were held at the end of April. This time the location will be Tolentino, in the Marche region, where the red and whites have obtained the pass to be able to participate in the Interzona concentration (eight of which are being played simultaneously throughout Italy): in every tournament, the first two teams gain the pass to qualify for the finals national.

Already now it is an important stage for the Under15 Eccellenza team, achieved with a very important season played so far, which will have to compete against Olimpia Roma, Dolomiti Energia Trentino and Unahotels Reggio Emilia. The first match, in Tolentino, will be on Friday 17 May at 6pm at the “Giulio Chierici” sports hall against Olimpia Roma. Depending on the results of this first day, the rest of the round-robin calendar will be made up: for everyone, three matches to play and the first two will qualify for the National Finals. Also on Saturday the match times are at 4pm and 6pm, while on Sunday on the pitch either at 10am or 12pm.

This is the complete roster of the team: Matteo Angelini, Luca Baldassarri, Matteo Branchetti, Tommaso Colangelo, Abraham Gai Pierallini (Captain), Fabio Mhilli, Francesco Michelucci, Elia Mungai, Riccardo Pascarella, Gabriele Salani, Gioele Santini, Andrea Torre.
