Rome is preparing to pay homage to one of the greatest Italian composers, Giacomo Puccini, on the occasion of the centenary of his death. On Wednesday 22 May at 7pm, the historic Ovale Piazza di Siena, located in the splendid setting of Villa Borghese, will host the concert ‘Opera Italiana is in the Air’, directed by Maestro Alvise Casellati. This event inaugurates the 91st Rome International Show Jumping Competition (CSIO), which will be held from 22 to 26 May.
The concert, organized by Intesa Sanpaolo and the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation, is free and open to all those who wish to attend from the ancient stands surrounding the competition field. It will be a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of Italian opera, recently declared a UNESCO intangible heritage site.
The evening’s program includes an exciting journey through Puccini’s most famous works, with songs taken from “La Bohème”, “Tosca”, “Madama Butterfly”, “Turandot”, “Manon Lescaut”, “Gianni Schicchi” and “Le Villi”. These masterpieces, performed by the “Opera Italiana is in the Air” Orchestra, continue to enchant listeners of all ages.
Maestro Alvise Casellati, President and Musical Director of “Opera Italiana is in the Air”, will lead the orchestra on this special evening. Founded in 2017, the organization aims to spread opera culture. The event will see the collaboration of the Orchestra Toscana Classica Under 35 and will have as guests of honor the soprano Carolina Lopez Moreno and the tenor Antonio Poli. The soloists of the program for young artists of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma “Fabbrica” will also participate: the soprano Mariam Suleiman, the baritone Mattia Rossi and the tenor Eduardo Niave.
