Last April 5, at around 3.45 am, a patrol from the Alessandria Traffic Police Section – Ovada Polstrada Subsection, stopped a foreign-registered van on the A/26 Genoa-Gravellona Toce motorway. The occupants of the vehicle, all non-EU citizens, did not have valid identity documents.
Verification and Identification
For a certain identification, the occupants were first accompanied to the offices of the Ovada Polstrada Subsection and subsequently to the Provincial Scientific Police Office of the Alessandria Police Headquarters. During the photodactyloscopic tests, one of the individuals was found to be the recipient of an arrest order issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Rome.
Conviction and Arrest
The subject, a 34-year-old Albanian with no fixed abode in Italy, had to serve a prison sentence of 4 years, 8 months and 28 days, as well as pay a fine of €1,900.00 for a final conviction relating to various crimes, including aggravated robbery. The man was immediately transferred to the “Cantiello e Gaeta” prison in Alessandria. The other irregular subjects were reported to the Alessandria Police Headquarters to regularize their position on the national territory.

The timely intervention of the State Police underlines the importance of road checks and collaboration between the various sections of the Police to guarantee safety and justice. The capture of wanted individuals and the management of irregular situations represent a fundamental step in the fight against crime.
