Lazio comes close to achieving the feat at San Siro. In the lead and in control for long stretches of the match, they missed the knockout blow and in the final they were reached by Dumfries’ header after a sleep by Marusic. Biancocelesti in the match who find Provedel in a state of grace who opposes Thuram and Dimarco (twice) as champions. Kamada takes care of breaking the match with a torpedo from distance. Lazio did well to limit Inter who hit the post with Lautaro Martinez. The Eagles have the chance to double the lead, but Vecino and especially Castellanos don’t score. In the final, Marusic was caught unprepared on a dead ball and Dumfries headed the equaliser. A prestigious point against the reigning champions, but which risks being difficult in the standings because sixth place is now more complicated.
TRAININGS – No favors from the former Simonw Inzaghi who chooses all the starters. Tudor changes seven men and finds Provedel in goal. Space for Rovella and Pellegrini, while Castellanos is preferred to Immobile. Behind the Argentine it’s Kamada and Zaccagni who are preferred to Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson.
FIRST HALF – The first chance is for Inter with Thuram who mocks the Nerazzurri defense and shoots with a sure shot, but Provedel saves. On the restart Lazio is more precise: Kamada launches Castellanos who enters the area and beats Sommer. Goal disallowed after VAR intervention due to Taty’s offside. Fun match in the first minutes with the Nerazzurri making themselves dangerous with the enveloping maneuver, but Tudor’s team did not appear. So Sommer is the one who has to work overtime first on Zaccagni and then on Castellanos after a banal turnover by Acerbi. After a study phase, Dimarco looks for the goal with two left-handed strikes from the edge that force Provedel into a double super intervention to remove the ball from the target. In the 32nd minute it’s Lazio who passes: a very long dribble from the eagles and Kamada explodes a left-footed shot from the edge that Sommer can’t do anything about. The Japanese goes wild and shortly afterwards steals the ball and serves Zaccagni who shoots into the side net. Inter tries to react, but they go to rest with the Romans ahead thanks to Kamada’s goal.
SECOND HALF – Second half without changes and first conclusion with Calhanoglu from distance, ball high over the crossbar. Lazio managed the match well, while Inter made a few more mistakes than usual. The Nerazzurri light up in the 58th minute when a rebound frees Barella who heads the ball and finds Provedel again who puts it in the corner. In the corner Lautaro rises higher than Patric, but the ball hits the post before Casale clears the ball. In the 62nd minute, Lazio had the knockout opportunity with Vecino who freed himself and tried a left-footed shot which came out narrowly with Sommer beaten. Inzaghi recalls Darmian, Bastoni and Mkhitaryan for Dumfries, Carlos Augusto and Frattesi to try to resume the challenge. Tudor also makes the first changes with Hysaj and Guendouzi replacing Pellegrini and Rovella. The Frenchman steals the ball and tries a shot from distance, the ball goes out. The exhausted Kamada and Zaccagni are replaced by Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson, while at Inter Buchanan and Sanchez take over Dimarco and Calhanoglu. Last change in Lazio the last change sees Cataldi on the pitch in place of Mario Gila. The Italian champions raise their center of gravity and try to worry the Eagles who defend themselves with order. With five to go Castellanos goes on the restart and gets in front of Sommer but doesn’t shoot and allows Pavard to save. On the reversal in front, Lautaro Martinez’s header is blocked by Provedel. Inter equalized with three to go: free kick from the right, Marusic fell asleep and Dumfries headed home.
