An evening of conviviality and discussion promoted by Sumai Umbria, the Single Union of Italian Outpatient Medicine, took place on Friday 17 May in Perugia, at the Posta dei Donini. The event saw the participation of the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, and achieved considerable success thanks to the presence of numerous illustrious guests, representatives of institutions, regional healthcare leaders and professionals in the sector.

Among the participants in the initiative were Senator Franco Zaffini, president of the Senate health commission, Massimo D’Angelo, general director of Umbrian healthcare, and Vincenzo Nicola Talesa, director of the Department of Medicine and surgery at the University of Perugia. Present for the Umbria Region were the president Donatella Tesei and the health councilor Luca Coletto, and for the legislative assembly of Umbria the president Marco Squarta and the president of the Third Commission which deals with health and social services, Eleonora Pace.

The regional secretary of Sumai Umbria, Francesca Castellani, underlined the fundamental role of Sumai Umbria in the organization of the event, ensuring an open dialogue and constructive among the participants. Among the topics covered during the meeting, the strengthening of local healthcare as a key element of hospital efficiency, the management of waiting lists and attention to disadvantaged areas.

Castellani explained that the role of specialist outpatient is strategic in local healthcare, as the internal affiliated doctor, thanks to contractual flexibility, provides true local healthcare. The objective of Sumai is that citizens, within the Umbrian healthcare system, receive high quality, timely and equitably distributed care. For this reason, dialogue between hospital and territory is becoming increasingly important in order to make care more efficient and optimize resources.

Minister Schillaci has declared that Sumai plays a fundamental role in community medicine and territorial medicine. He underlined the importance of valorising this work, especially at a time of shortage of doctors and re-evaluation of the national health service. He expressed his willingness to collaborate with these high-level specialists to further improve collaboration with the National Health System.
