Marco De Marchi opens up about his impressions on the rossoblù future

In the great joy of the rossoblù triumph there is a creeping underlying fear. There is a fear that history will repeat itself. Like 34 years ago, a team that sparks, that lives a dream season and then loses its best talents, transferred to Turin, from Juve.

It’s true, the Juventus team has an impressive charm, it seems like a magnet for talent. The rossoblù fans are experiencing a moment where emotion and concern mix. There is enthusiasm for this incredible season which is drawing to a close, but also fear that those who contributed to this exploit may leave.

Football, like history, is marked by cycles, but perhaps we hope that this is the right time to write a different ending.

Marco De Marchi, interviewed by Courier of Bolognaanswers questions about his career and delves into Bologna’s current situation from his point of view.

De Marchi himself left the rossoblù in 1990 to go to Juve. We therefore have an opinion from a footballer who has experienced this dynamic firsthand.

Former rossoblù Marco De Marchi talks about 34 years ago, but not only that

The future of Bologna, right now, appears uncertain. Thiago Motta brought the team to the pinnacle of success and everyone is grateful to him. But the concern that he, along with talents of the caliber of Zirkzee and Calafiori could leave, remains high.

Similar situation to that of 1990 with Gigi Maifredi, who after winning the UEFA Cup left Bologna to go to Juve. Today like yesterday, Motta could say goodbye to the rossoblù, just after having won the Champions League. “Motta would leave Bologna with the Champions League, Maifredi left it with the UEFA Cup” says De Marchi“If Thiago leaves I could only wish him to do better than Gigi.”

Obviously the BFC will do everything possible to keep Motta and the players in the team, but inevitably someone will have to leave the team “If I think as a fan, I’m sorry to think that the valuable pieces go elsewhere” says the former rossoblù “Calafiori is much, much stronger than me. However, we need to look further. Giovanni Sartori is sought after by everyone and the club is enviable: we must have faith, we cannot think on our gut.”

It cannot be ignored that football is also made up of market movements. It is an important factor in football dynamics and unfortunately Saputo’s Bologna also has to face this situation. De Marchi explains that “Clubs can only sustain themselves in this way, capital gains help the budgets” and adds “When Tomiyasu, Theate, Dominguez, Schouten left, it seemed like hell and nothing happened: they were replaced in a big way,” making it clear that even in the past, similar situations seemed to be the end of the world, but then turned out to be the simple flow of events.

For De Marchi, the model would be Atalanta, in terms of management and growth “In these six years the squad has changed a lot, they are always there and the balance sheets are good. Bologna is at the beginning of their climb up the rankings and we cannot feel sorry for ourselves over any transfers, even if they are burdensome. We must have faith in the management who have demonstrated great ability over all these years.”

Moving on to the more emotionally sensitive issues. We always talk about Motta’s hypothetical farewell “Another Motta, from what he showed, doesn’t exist“, admits Marco. “If Motta were to leave, the club will have to find a suitable replacement” and this is precisely the sore point of this thorny situation. However, the former player gives confidence “I am convinced that the club will be able to identify a coach with a football strategy and a philosophy that brings results forward” and after all it is everyone’s hope.

But in this context, we must not forget that Bologna also experienced a brilliant season and the team will definitely be coveted by many. However, with success certainly comes management difficulties. “After a season like this, Bologna would be an uncomfortable bench, it’s one thing to go to work where there is rubble, another where there is a garden similar to Eden“, recalls De Marchi.

Returning to Motta’s future, Marco confesses his feelings to us “The feeling is that he will go away, but I really hope not, Thiago is a particular guy, it’s impossible to get into his head. He thinks about his formations: no one can guess them.”

It’s true, bittersweet months await Bologna. There’s this feeling of attachment to this year’s dream team and hope that no one leaves. But we know that football is made of movement and surprises. This is also a dynamic that keeps everyone on their toes and curious to know where the moves of the future will lead.

One thing is certain, everyone places great esteem and trust in the Bologna staff.
