From stage to stage: how the thirteenth stage of the 2024 Giro went
Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) respects the predictions and prevails at the end of a royal sprint on the occasion of the Riccione-Centovalid as the twelfth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2024.
They start immediately Andrea Pietrobon (Team Polti Kometa), Manuele Tarozzi And Alessandro Tonelli (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), who at the fiftieth kilometer accumulate a 2.30 advantage over the compact group behind them.

At the Intergiro of Lugo, Tarozzi precedes Tonelli and Pierobon. The sprint of Conselice sees Pietrobon take the lead, ahead of Tarozzi and Tonelli.
The pacesetters’ advantage collapsed to 15 seconds 55km from the finish line and they were caught again shortly afterwards. The group behind them splits in two with Milan remaining behind for the moment compared to the first part of the match peloton about fifteen seconds.
Up front, Ineos Grandiers continues to keep the pace high, but two thirds of the group regroup with just over 40km to go, including Milan.
20km from the finish line, a fall at the rear of the group involves, among others, the Frenchman Ewen Costiou (Arkéa – B&B Hotels).
In the lead, after an attack, the Belgian Dries De Pooter (Intermarché-Wanty) is reached just under 10km from the finish by the now compact group. Everything is ready for the sprint, with the Lidl-Trek men well placed.
Fernando Gaviria (Movistar) tries to start early on the final straight, but Milan he is positioned in a great way and he burns it clearly, crossing the finish line clearly in first position and thus signing his personal hat trick in this Corsa Rosa after the successes recorded in the fourth and eleventh stage.
“The boys pushed hard to close the hole that had been created at a certain point. We approached the final part in a perfect way, we had to be in front of the last corner with Simone Consonni – says today’s winner -. It’s wonderful to be part of of this team. I’m really happy and proud of the whole team.”
Tadej Pogacar however, he remains at the top of the general classification, with the gaps over his main rivals unchanged.
Tomorrow’s stage, a predominantly flat individual time trial, sees the Italian among the favourites Filippo GannaOlympic champion in the track cycling team pursuit at Tokyo 2020. Will he also be able to be a protagonist at the Paris 2024 Games?
