BOLZANO. For the installation of the ETCS control system, the closure of the Bolzano-Merano railway line is planned from June 17th to July 16th.

Users will be guaranteed a replacement bus service.

For this summer, the railway network manager RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) has planned extensive works on the Bolzano-Merano railway line for the installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS).

The structural implementation of this tool represents an essential step for improving the efficiency in the circulation of trains with reduced hourly frequency and a consequent increase in safety on the entire railway line.

This type of work will therefore involve the complete closure of the railway line in the Bolzano-Merano section in the indicated period. For the duration of the works on the line, a replacement bus service will be made available every half hour.

The timetable includes simultaneous departures of at least two buses:

  • express bus B200 departing from Bolzano station (track F, Via Renon) via the MeBo to Merano station (track Z, station underpass) and return. Only the following intermediate stops are served by replacement buses: Bolzano Sud-Fiera and Lana-Postal station. For safety reasons, standing room is not permitted;
  • replacement bus B200 (see timetable B200) connects Bolzano station (track G, Via Renon) with Merano station (track Z, station underpass) and vice versa. The B200 bus will only serve the main stops of the respective towns and will not stop at any railway station: Settequerce/Scuola, Terlano/Scuola, Vilpiano/Paese, Gargazzone/Paese, Lana-Postal/Tourist office, Merano/Terme.

In Bolzano, the B200 buses also stop at the “Via Longon” stop on Corso Libertà and at the hospital stop.

Departures at intermediate stops may be delayed due to longer bus travel times. Alternatively, you can use the 201 Bolzano-Merano bus.

Train tickets are also recognized on buses on line 201 for the duration of the closure. Bicycles cannot be transported on all replacement buses.
