Tprotect the consumer and the fish resource: this is the objective of the operation carried out by the soldiers of the Manfredonia Coast Guard, assisted by the SIAV B Veterinary Service (Food Hygiene) of the ASL of Foggia.
During an ordinary inspection at a retail sale of fish products in Manfredonia, various critical issues were found. In fact, the inspections revealed hygienic-sanitary deficiencies within the warehouse and, above all, the presence of approximately 270 kg of fish products without the necessary information for traceability.
The business owner was immediately suspended and was charged with two administrative sanctions for a total amount of approximately 2,500 euros. The military also proceeded with the seizure of 270 kg of fish products, deemed unfit for human consumption and for which immediate destruction was ordered.
The operation of the Manfredonia Coast Guard underlines the importance of controls to protect consumer health and the sustainability of fishing. Ensuring the traceability of fish products and compliance with health and hygiene standards is essential to combat illegal fishing and protect marine resources.
The Coast Guard reminds consumers to purchase seafood only from authorized sellers and to always check for the presence of labels with traceability information.
