After the successful participation of the first two editions, “Saione Mob” returns on Sunday 26 May from 9am to 7pm in Arezzo. The day of celebration and participation that every year manages to transform an entire neighborhood of the city into a laboratory of social innovation, including cultural and artistic, educational, sporting and shopping initiatives.
The initiative – which will take place between via Vittorio Veneto, via Rismondo, via Guelfa, via Trasimeno, piazza Zucchi and piazza Saione – is promoted by Oxfam Italia and Confesercenti, with the patronage of the Municipality of Arezzo and the “Arezzo Community” Foundation, in collaboration with Confcommercio, Istituti Comprensivi 4 Novembre and Severi, the traders and the many voluntary and cultural associations in the neighbourhood. True protagonists of the day.
“We are really proud to be able to offer for the third year, with the precious contribution of many subjects, a day of celebration and participation in the city where we work every day for the social inclusion of many citizens in difficulty, with our Community Center of Saione, and to fight school dropouts and educational poverty, thanks to the Comunitalenti project, from which this wonderful event was born – he said Alessandro Bechini, responsible for Oxfam’s Programs in Italy – The work we are carrying out in Arezzo for the development, by 2025, of community educational pacts is central in this direction. An essential tool to strengthen and expand the training offer inside and outside the school, thanks to the common work of many entities. With the third edition of Saione Mob we want to move forward on this objective: to enhance all the actors of the territory through participatory initiatives of cultural and social animation open to all”.
Planned initiatives
Many initiatives aimed at young people and families are scheduled throughout the day. Starting from the Flea Market – a reality that has always been characterized by its social value – which will bring over 200 stalls throughout the neighbourhood, and the charity market organized by the Il Velocipede association and Cla socialization centre, in Piazza Zucchi. Furthermore, the shops will remain open throughout the day.
“Confesercenti together with Oxfam and the Flea Market – added the director of Confesercenti Arezzo, Valeria Alvisi – for the third year it promotes an event that represents a day of valorisation of the Saione neighbourhood. The trade association has always been committed to organizing initiatives capable of giving visibility to Via Vittorio Veneto and the surrounding streets where traders, with their activities, also perform a social function on a daily basis. Saione Mob, among other things, enhances the social aspect and therefore being able to collaborate with other organizations and voluntary associations is the right formula to make shopkeepers and residents of the Saione neighborhood experience a wonderful day of celebration. The invitation is to participate by visiting the shops that will remain open all day and to stroll among the stalls of the Flea Market and then make a pit stop inside the public businesses in the area ready to provide refreshment to the thousands of people who will visit the third edition of Saione Mob, which has now become an eagerly awaited event in the city and beyond”.
There are also many cultural, educational and recreational initiatives.
At the Istituto Comprensivo 4 Novembre, the following are planned: a drawing contest aimed at children under 15; at 11am and 4pm, the engaging show Gustavo La Vita, a contemporary circus performance staged by Andrea Farnetani, organized by the Sosta Palmizi association as part of The Dance that Moves is Spring; sports activities organized by CSI at the school field; readings aloud for children, curated by Laav and Biblioteca Polezzi; the participatory art initiative, which involves the construction of the Tree of Peace; the itinerant theatre, curated by Samuele Boncompagni and Officine della Cultura; the return of the workshops created with the school with the Comunitalenti project; the exhibition of artistic works created by students of the Vasari school and the Istituto Comprensivo Margaritone with the Reimagined project, created by Oxfam.
At the Pionta park there will be an afternoon for the little ones with Games from the World, designed and managed by the children of the Saione Council with Legambiente and ABC Social Inclusion.
Physically and ideally next to the school, in Piazzetta Rismondo, there will be space for the FuoriSaione…piazza la cultura!, which will showcase the richness and vitality of the independent culture of the area: the second edition of the Saione del libro, (curated by Michele Borgogni and Spaghetti Weird) with stands of emerging writers; the exhibition of WeAre and The Aretiner magazines; the launches of the summer youth festivals The Psicho Hill Fest at Pionta and Urto Festival at Villa Severi. Furthermore, The Sound of Zion – a music, writers and urban culture collective from the neighborhood – will create a graffiti during the day, which it will donate to the IV Novembre school.
The Imago association will color Piazzetta Rismondo and the neighborhood even more, with a widespread photographic exhibition, which will be set up in shop windows. The association will also offer the opportunity to participate in a true photography marathon, with the aim of capturing the most beautiful views of Saione and the most exciting moments of the day.
Inside the B&B Bio Benessere you can visit I will take care of you: an exhibition-trail of memories through the rooms of the hotel, which anticipates the participatory theater show Stories in the Attic of the Flea Market, scheduled for autumn. While in the suggestive solarium of the structure you can watch the afternoon show Family tales among the roofs with Gea Testi, Samuele Boncompagni and Mia Bartolucci.

During the day it will finally be possible to contact the Oxfam Community Center at the info-corner in Piazza Saione and, as every year, to support the many associations that operate in the area such as Donne Insieme, Chimera Arcobaleno, Icare, Progetto 5, Pronto Donna , Parish of Saione, the Polezzi Library of 4 November.
