The Risk Monitoring Functional Center of the Lombardy region issued today, May 17, 2024a new yellow code weather alert for hydrogeological and hydraulic risk. On Lombardy scheduled for the second part of the day today May 17th “weak or at most moderate instability on the Alpine and pre-Alpine reliefs until the evening showers or temporal scattered, extending towards the North-East, but with a very low probability of strong thunderstorms. The occasional involvement of the plain areas, especially the western ones, cannot be ruled out. Possible local cumulations in the order of 10 mm/h. Between afternoon And evening There is also a strengthening of the winds from the South, more marked in the Apennines, in the Lower Plain areas and at altitude in the northern mountains, with maximum gusts around 40-55 km/h”.
For the day of tomorrow May 18th the weather alert for Lombardy predicts “in the late morning isolated showers on the north-western areas extending, during the afternoon-evening, to the central and eastern reliefs. From the afternoon until late evening, possible scattered showers or local thunderstorms are reported in the pre-Alpine and Alpine areas, with probable involvement of the western lowland areas, while the involvement of the eastern lowland will be less likely (the probability of strong thunderstorms remains very low) . In general during the day more heavy rainfall in the western and central areas, but heavy showers in the central-eastern high plains in the late evening cannot be ruled out. Still moderate or strong ventilation from the South at high altitude on the hills in the afternoon, with some reinforcement from the North in the evening on the plains“.
Finally, it is noted “that due to the rainfall that affected the basin Po river in the last few days, the transit of a (soft) flood wave has been recorded in the stretch Lombard.
