Pitbull dog frees himself from his owner and launches into the street, where he first bites a 15-year-old girl and then a 7-year-old girl who was playing nearby, ending up in the emergency room together with her mother, who intervened to help her. This is, in short, what happened last Saturday afternoon, in Serracapriola, where a Pitbull dog owned, about a year old, caused panic in a semi-central area of the town.
“The little girl saw the dog bite a passing girl and, instinctively, ran away. This movement of hers must have attracted the attention of the dog, which pounced on her, causing her to fall to the ground. At that point she started to attack bite her legs and arms”, says the parent. The little girl’s desperate screams attracted the attention of her mother who, in a panic, literally “dived” from the balcony of the house on the first floor to free her little girl.
In this rush, the woman fractured her right foot and suffered several injuries to her arms and hands in an attempt to free the little girl from the dog’s grip. “When my wife arrived, the dog was on top of the little girl and was already climbing up the throat,” explains the man who is still shaken by what happened. Mother and daughter were then transported by 118 to the emergency room of San Severo hospital, both in ‘code orange’.
Here the doctors treated the wounds and established a prognosis of 20 days for the little girl and 60 days for the mother, whose situation was worsened by the fracture of her foot. The attack, which occurred around 5pm, lasted a handful of minutes which seemed like an eternity: “My daughter is still in shock, scared and having terrible nightmares,” adds the man. The Serracapriola carabinieri intervened on site, collected the victims’ reports and began investigating the case. The dog, however, will be subjected to a period of observation ordered by the veterinary health authority.
