Trapani, illicit waste disposal near the Saline: 8 convictions

TRAPANI – The illegal disposal of waste ends with a sentence from the Court of Trapani which had led to the creation of a huge illegal landfill a few meters from the Saline di Trapani and Paceco nature reserve.

In a vast area bordering the Lenzi and Baiata rivers For years, waste of all kinds had been illegally abandoned and even burned.

In April 2023, at the conclusion of the preliminary investigations, for eight people and two companies the Trapani area had been requested to be sent to trial for “environmental pollution” with invasion of public lands and “illicit management of waste in the form of transport and creation of an illegal landfill”.

Furthermore, the crimes of fraud and false declarations to the judicial police were charged. After the plea agreement, the defendants were sentenced to sentences of one to two and a half years in prison, fines, confiscation of the areas and the obligation to restore the polluted territories.
