The Carabinieri of the Foiano della Chiana station (AR), in collaboration with the Territorial Labor Inspectorate of Arezzo and specifically with the Carabinieri of the Unit, at the conclusion of a complex investigative activity undertaken in the month of February 2024, aimed at combating the ‘undue receipt of citizenship income, 42 people were handed over in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Arezzo, mostly residents in the municipality of Foiano della Chiana, but also in the municipalities of Marciano della Chiana, Cortona, Sinalunga, Terranova Bracciolini, Capolona, Montepulciano, Castel Piano, held responsible for the crimes of failure to communicate changes in income or assets after requesting the benefit; for making or using false statements or documents or certifying untrue things, or omitting required information; aggravated fraud to obtain public funds.
The people referred, for various reasons and at various times, in the period between 2019 and 2022 unduly received the total sum of approximately 300,000 euros.
According to the investigative hypotheses, the people involved in the affair fraudulently declared that they had been residents in the municipality of Foiano della Chiana (AR) for at least two years, or that they had remained continuously on the national territory for at least 10 (ten) years.
