On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June the people of Cesena will also be called to the polls to express their preference for the local elections (to elect the Mayor and the City Council) and to the Europeans (to elect Italian representatives in the European Parliament). The electoral body of Cesena is made up of 79,693 voting citizens, of which 38,603 men and 41,090 females. Furthermore, to these are added 85 community voters for the electoral lists added for the European Parliament, of which 18 men and 67 women, e 166 community voters for the electoral lists added for the Municipal elections, of which 44 men and 122 women.

In this electoral consultation, 1570 children (814 males and 756 females) are voting for the first time, having turned 18 years old after the last electoral appointment. From the youngest to the oldest: there are 38 voters over one hundred years old residing in the city (33 females and 5 males). The doyen of the electorate is Maria Mingolla born in Cesena on 23 June 1918.

When and where you vote

The 98 polling stations operating in the Municipality of Cesena will be open for voting on Saturday 8 June, from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and on Sunday 9 June, from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. The counting for the election of the European Parliament will begin immediately after the conclusion of the voting operations, on Sunday evening. The counting of the municipal elections will begin at 2.00 pm on Monday 10 June. 402 scrutineers, 103 presidents and 98 polling station secretaries will be involved in the electoral consultation (also including the 5 special polling stations for collecting votes in healthcare facilities with more than 100 beds). The possible runoff will take place on 23 and 24 June 2024.

What do you need to vote

To vote you must show up at the polling station with your electoral card (absolutely essential) and an identity document, even expired, as long as the person is recognisable. Identification by the staff on duty at the polling stations or by people known to the polling station staff is also accepted. Except in particular cases strictly provided for by law, the voter can vote in the polling station only if he is included in the electoral list available to the polling station president.

In case of exhaustion of voting spaces, deterioration, loss or theft of the electoral card, to obtain the issue of a duplicate, it is necessary to contact the Sportello Facile with an identification document (no notification is required, and it can be issued to delegates). In view of the next consultations this office, to ensure that those who have lost their electoral card can request a duplicate, it will remain open in the two days before the vote (Thursday 6 and Friday 7 June) from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, while on voting day it will be open during the same opening hours as the polling stations. The electoral office is located at the Sportello Facile, in Piazzetta Cesenati del 1377 (Rocca entrance). For voters with non-ambulatory disabilities, a transport service is provided to allow them to reach the polling stations (all the information will soon be available on the Municipality website in home page).

Preferences: pay attention to the genre

Upon entering the voting booth, voters will receive two ballots: a blue one for the municipal ones and a brown one for the European ones.

For the election of Mayor and City Council There are three possible voting methods. The mark can only be drawn on the symbol of a list (this way preference is assigned to the marked list and, automatically, to the mayoral candidate supported by the latter). Or, you can mark only the name of the mayoral candidate (in this case you vote only for the mayoral candidate and not for the list or lists connected to him). Finally, there is the possibility of ‘split voting’, i.e. you can cast your vote for a mayoral candidate and, at the same time, put the cross on the symbol of an unconnected list. Each voter can express, in the appropriate lines next to the list symbol, their preferences for the candidates for the City Council. It is possible to express up to 2 preferences, as long as they are given to candidates of different genders (and naturally belonging to the same list). Otherwise, the second preference will be cancelled.

For the European elections it is however possible to express from one to three preference votes for candidates included in the voted list. In the case of multiple preferences expressed, these must concern candidates of different sex, under penalty of cancellation of the second and third preferences. For example, in the case of two preferences: woman-man or vice versa; in the case of three preferences: woman-woman-man or vice versa; woman-man-woman or vice versa. If multiple preferences are expressed for candidates who are all of the same sex, the preferences following the first are cancelled.

In case of identical surnames between the candidates on the same list, the name and surname must always be written the days before the vote (specify) the real-time voting data. This applies to both local and European elections.

This year too, it will be possible to follow the progress of the European and municipal elections from your home computer. Simply connect to the Municipality website www.comune.cesena.fc.it, where a special section will be set up. In this section, turnout data and counting data will be published on voting days and during counting operations. In fact, as has already happened during the electoral consultations of recent years, the results from the various sections will be placed on the internet as they arrive in the Municipality.
