The Giffoni Film Festival, founded in 1971 by Claudio Gubitosi, is an event dedicated to children, teenagers and families, which has been held continuously for 54 years. Gubitosi’s determination and ability to plan have transformed the festival into an international reference event for the new generations.
Last summer, during a visit to the Giffoni Film Festival, it emerged how this event manages to attract a large audience: 360 thousand attendees last year, with notable benefits for the local production sector. Furthermore, the festival is exported to various countries throughout the year, adapting to local needs.
Alessandria saw this event as an opportunity for its community. In collaboration with the Mayor, it was decided to involve the schools, in particular ITIS Volta. Two students from this school will participate as jurors in the next Giffoni Film Festival, which will be held from 19 to 28 July 2024.
This involvement represents an opportunity for young people from Alessandria to learn the news of the event, whose theme will be “The illusion of distance”. The objective is to start a new cultural path that involves the new generations and supports the organization of the event, promoting the different professions linked to film production.
The participation of the children in the Giffoni Experience will allow them to share the new things they have learned, further motivating their goals. This project is seen as a starting point for building together, making young people protagonists, with the involvement of the Youth Council.
The intention for next year is to stipulate an agreement with the Municipality of Alessandria to enhance the educational aspect offered by the cinematographic image, encouraging education in artistic and audiovisual languages and promoting initiatives to combat youth hardship. The cinema project of the Giffoni Film Festival can therefore represent a fundamental starting point for the cultural and social future of the community.
