Castellammare – Fincantieri, the launch of the LSS Atlante tomorrow

The works were completed in less than 12 months. Another jewel ready to sail the seas of the world.

The launch of the second logistical support unit (LSS, or Logistic Support Ship) “Atlante” will take place tomorrow morning, destined for the Navy as part of a program that also includes a third. The unit, built by Fincantieri in Castellammare di Stabia, will be delivered in 2025. The contract has a value of approximately 410 million euros including the combat system. As part of the multi-year program for the protection of the maritime capacity of the Defense (the so-called “Naval Law”), Fincantieri is currently building seven multipurpose offshore patrol vessels (PPA) and the transport and landing unit (LHD – Landing Helicopter Desk )

“Trieste”. Furthermore, in 2021 the Group delivered the LSS “Vulcano”, partly built in the Castellammare di Stabia shipyard, a project also acquired by the French National Navy for the definition of the Flotlog program, a series of units built in collaboration with the Campania shipyard.

The Municipality, given the upcoming municipal and European elections, has decided not to hold the “Launch Day”, probably to avoid political exploitation of the event. Therefore, the launch will be behind closed doors but clearly admirable from the seafront of Castellammare di Stabia but also from the panoramic area for a view from above that will certainly provide many emotions.
