One year of imprisonment for the driver accused of causing the death of a horse inside the Royal Palace of Caserta Park on 20 August 2020. This was decided by the judge of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere court. The Prosecutor’s Office had invoked three of them.

This was made known by Nadia Zurlo, head of the LAV Equid Area, an association which has joined the civil action with the lawyer Cirpiano Ficedolo of the Benevento Bar. “We are satisfied with the conviction, but we cannot forget the pain and suffering of Found Goal Pag – comments Zurlo in a note – His death represents a tragic testimony to the cruelty inflicted on non-human animals in the name of profit and indifference. We will continue to fight so that no other animal should suffer a similar fate, and for a world in which every creature can live free from exploitation and violence.”

The judge, the note continues, “recognized the criminal responsibility of the woman, guilty of having denied the horse rest and essential care during its ‘work’ under the relentless sun of that summer day. The absence of watering and the excessive effort led the horse to suffer a profound state of dehydration, culminating in fatal heat stroke and cardio-circulatory arrest which led to his death.”

The coach’s defender, the lawyer Paolo Falco, has now announced an appeal. “We are awaiting the reasons for the sentence but obviously it is the intention of the defense to proceed with the appeal before the Court of Appeal of Naples – he comments Casertanews – There are numerous inconsistencies that I have identified in the preliminary investigation, with particular regard to the depositions of the veterinarians who intervened at the site of the horse’s death, which indicate that the horse was sweating. This assumption is in total contrast with what was stated by the prosecutor’s technical consultant who believes that the horse was completely dehydrated. These inconsistencies in my client’s slavish compliance with the municipal regulation and that issued by the then director of the Reggia Felicori will be the pillars of the appeal”, concludes lawyer Falco.

The Horse Angels association of Cesenatico was also a civil party in the trial with the lawyer Laura Mascolo.
