The words of Mayor Basile

“Citizens play a fundamental role within the institutions – Mayor Basile explained – and the start of this project is the testimony. Thanks to the contribution of the ArcheoClub, which I thank, together with the other associations that launch ideas to promote the growth and development of our city, Messina tells the story of some of its sites. Not only tourists benefit from it, but also citizens themselves because it happens that they do not know the origins of places and monuments that we experience in our daily lives. I hope that other similar projects will be developed.”

Caruso’s words

Councilor Caruso added that: “Teaming up to support the city leads to the realization of these initiatives, which allow further growth for our territory with a view to enhancing the artistic, historical and cultural heritage. Other recent examples of synergistic collaboration were the project of the six Braille plaques for the blind created by the Messina Lions Clubs and the Greek-Italian bilingual tourist signs thanks to the support of the Hellenic Community of the Straits”.

The idea and launch of the national QRcode project starts from Archeoclub Integrated Area of the Strait and constitutes a further tool for tourism promotion, alongside those already implemented by local institutions and other club services. With a view to enhancing the artistic, historical and cultural heritage of the individual territories on the Archeoclub d’Italia website, a box has been dedicated to churches/monuments/palaces that the various local offices will want to equip with QR codes, to provide data and information to the user . The monument can thus be used both through the website and through the QR code placed at the base of the illustrative panel, with the possibility of listening to its description in Italian and English and enjoying a dedicated photo gallery.

NOTE

The APS-ETS Archeoclub of Italy, a moral body at the service of Cultural Heritage, has as its statutory purpose not only the protection, but above all the promotion and valorisation of the archaeological, historical-architectural and environmental heritage present in the territory. It promotes its activity through initiatives, projects and awareness campaigns that local offices carry out throughout the national territory with the primary objective of improving and implementing its use.
