«To survey the steel needs of the national market in order to align the production recovery of the former Ilva with the real industrial needs of our country». This is the objective of the meeting held today at Mimit between the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, the extraordinary commissioners of Acciaierie d’Italia in As and the main stakeholders of the company, over 20 companies and national and international associations as underlined the ministry.

«A meeting which falls within the scope of the relaunch plan of the steel group and which represents a crucial step for the planning of the activities that the Government and the extraordinary Commissioners are implementing, «so as to prepare an exhaustive framework also for the new investors who will begin to visit the plants starting next week” declared Minister Urso. «The effort that the Italian government is making is to make Taranto the most important steelworks in Europe again, capable of satisfying first of all the needs relating to internal consumption. A zero kilometer steel project for the country system” continued Urso.

«When we placed the company under administration, we inherited a situation in which the plants were almost compromised, but we were able to intervene in time, quickly and decisively. Today, through the industrial plan that we have put in place with the commissioners, we aim to significantly streamline processes, reduce costs and deliver our steel in extremely short times. The industrial policy of our country passes through Taranto” added the minister.

During the meeting, the extraordinary commissioner Giancarlo Quaranta illustrated the industrial plan of Acciaierie d’Italia in As, highlighting the peculiarities of the group’s plants capable, at full capacity, of effectively meeting the demand for steel. The strengths of the port of Taranto were also highlighted, with a position considered strategic and which, also in light of the current geopolitical framework, appears to be the maritime infrastructure with the safest and fastest routes in Europe.

The company’s stakeholders were also illustrated how, with the start of commissioner management, the relaunch of the production activity of the factories was guaranteed through the reactivation of the supply of raw materials and the relaunch of extraordinary maintenance interventions, such as the of the two blast furnaces and the reactivation of the downstream plants. Fundamental activities for the implementation of the actions envisaged by the industrial plan, which aims to produce 6 million tonnes per year from 2025.
