PISA – A discipline, that of padelwhich is increasingly gaining ground among young people and beyond – so much so that it will take part in upcoming Paris 2024 Games as a demonstration sport and then officially included in the Olympic program four years later in Los Angeles 2028 – it could not fail to be taken into consideration by the Sports Department of the Municipality of Pisa which therefore took steps to organize, in collaboration with the “Pisa Padel Club“, the first “City of Pisa” Trophy which will take place in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II from June 30th to July 7th, and whose program was illustrated in the Sala delle Baleari of Palazzo Gambacorti in the presence, among others, of the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Pisa Frida Scarpa and of Alessandro SelmiPresident of Pisa Padel Club.

From a strictly technical point of view, it will therefore be possible, from 9:00 until midnight, be protagonists and/or watch a whole series of challengesas well as being able to book the courts for all citizens who will thus have the opportunity to play in a different location than usual, with the Tournament being divided into female and male levels of play, while the presence of the Argentinian Marcelo Capitani is expected at the inauguration on Sunday 30 Juneprofessional player and former number 20 in the “World Padel Tour Ranking”, current Head of the Youth Sector and Technical Commissioner of the “Under” National Team, as well as Gustavo Spector famous Padel Master in Italy, coach of the national team since 2014 who will demonstrate his training.
An absolute novelty, therefore, which can only be gratifying the Sports Councilor Frida Scarpawhich highlights: “Having organized such an event makes us proud and, at the same time, we can only thank the “Pisa Padel Club” for the collaboration provided in a beautiful synergy that we have implemented and which has allowed, as I always like to underline, to ensure that it is Sport that goes towards the citizens, following a policy implemented since the beginning of the council which aims to spread and disseminate Sport in the squares and in the historic centre, through a multiplicity of events which have had the merit of increasing the related activities of the Sports Associations, which have seen a great growth in membership in recent months, as well as allowing citizens to be involved, making Pisa increasingly alive. Specifically about the initiative illustrated this morning“, continues the Councillor, “it is a truly very special event, as for a week it involves the historic city center with eight wonderful evenings, so as to represent a great attraction for everyone to be able to admire Champions as well as get involved ourselves as amateurs, thus that, with a pinch of false modesty, we can assert that just as Rome has the Tennis Court for the “Italian Internationals” at the Foro Italico, here Pisa offers Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II for a week to the Padel Tournament so as not to want to be less. All to represent“, concludes Frida Scarpa, “a real promotion of this Discipline, as lessons are scheduled in the morning, so as to represent a way to encourage everyone to show up in the Square to try this new Discipline knowing that they have a teacher available who can help us in the fundamentals of this Sport , together with enjoying the show, hoping to ensure that thanks to events like this, Padel can grow even more, also given the widespread diffusion of new fields where it can be practiced“.
