EUROPEANS: RUOTOLO (PD CANDIDATE) IN PESCARA, “SUPPORT US TO HAVE A STRONGER EUROPE” | Current news

TERAMO – “I would like to see a Europe that we in Italy have known: that of the pandemic, the EU that causes the budget to change, that understands that to restart this country needs a competitive South. And instead we are witnessing a contradiction: Europe allocates 40% of the PNRR resources to the South, while the government Melons divides the poor regions from the richer ones with differentiated autonomy.”: this is what the journalist said Sandro Ruotolo, candidate for the European Parliament for the Democratic Party, this afternoon in Pescara during the meeting “For a new city and a new Europe”, organized by the PD club “Giuseppe Di Vittorio” of Pescara Porta Nuova.

Ruotolo then added: “This is a European vote that will weigh heavily: let’s think about the issue of war, and the need for peace that exists. We have a war at home – the one in Ukraine – with the parallel problem of energy resources, and one in the Middle East. We should play a role of peace. Europe is an economic power but it is a political dwarf, we are for a federalist Europe, we must have a common foreign policy. 50 years ago I went to celebrate the peace agreement in Vietnam, now I would like my children to go and celebrate peace in the world.” And finally: “There is a chilling fact: in the last twenty years, 450 thousand young people have left the South in search of work; it’s the best youth that leaves. We must implement policies that allow our young people to return. The Municipality of Pescara needs a point of reference in Europe, we need to win against Meloni and the illiberal democracies to which she refers, for this reason we must vote for the Democratic Party and contribute to the victory of the European Socialist Party”.

The Abruzzo candidate for the European Parliament Manola Di Pasquale also participated in the initiative, and in her speech she stated: “The Democratic Party brings with it strongly pro-European values that aim to build solid and lasting peace scenarios. We must and want to work steadily on this, especially in light of the tragedies that are taking place around us. Fortifying the European Union also means extending and strengthening the system of rights, undermined by the right. And it is in this context that the battle for the defense of public healthcare and education accessible to all takes place.”

At the meeting – moderated by the former vice-president of the regional council Enrico Paolini – the regional secretary of the PD also took part, Daniele Marinelli, the centre-left mayoral candidate in Pescara, Carlo Costantini, and the candidate for the Pescara city council Stefano Alberto Brandimarte.
