Lake Como under special surveillance. Slow but steady rise in water level

The level of Lake Como is worrying. In 24 hours the waters rose by almost 30 centimeters. It went from 71 centimeters yesterday to over 96 today. According to data from the Regulatory Bodies of the Great Lakes, at 11am the lake reached 96.1cm. This figure increased throughout the day, reaching 98.3cm at 5pm.

The flood threshold – we remind you – is 120 centimeters above hydrometric zero. We are therefore talking about a filling of the basin equal to 80.6%. The lake is therefore under special surveillance. The local police let it be known that constant monitoring of the lake level is underway, with the various competent local authorities in continuous contact. Civil Protection and Red Cross on site.

Local police: “Constant but slow growth”

“The waters of the lake are growing constantly but slowly” they reassure the local police. The flow of water entering the lake continued and continues to be constantly higher than that leaving. A trend that showed no signs of change during the day, but the inflow in the last few hours is only slightly greater than the outflow.

However, if the rain continues to fall, the lake could reach the flood threshold tomorrow.

“There are no particular risk reports” says Michele Cappelletti, councilor for Civil Protection of the Municipality of Como, who currently excludes the possibility of raising the mobile bulkheads.

The situation in Piazza Cavour

Piazza Cavour is clear of water for the whole day. In the afternoon, however, the roadway closest to the Lungo Lario Trento lake began to widen again, with manhole covers continuing to spill water onto the road. A mobile walkway has also been installed to facilitate pedestrian crossing and avoid the large puddle on the roadside.
