“I’m heartbroken but I’m moving on”

The rector of Sassari, Gavino Mariotti, is under investigation for mafia. The name of the number one of the Sardinian university, according to what we learn, appears in the documents ofinvestigation called “Monte Nuovo” which in September led to 31 arrests in Sardinia.

In December the Review had excluded the mafia and secret association, but now the prosecutor Emanuele Secci has closed the investigation, still focusing on that accusation by cthus raising the number of suspects to 34. Among them is the rector of Sassari who is currently aligned with the centre-right cas mayoral candidate for the elections to be held on 8 and 9 June.

“I have not yet received any notification or action from the judiciary. I met with the leaders of the parties that support me, at the Roman level, and they all prevented me from resigning and asked me to continue with my candidacy. I, with a broken heart, will try to do it” – Mariotti explained during a press conference held today in which the rector appeared very distressed and barely managed to hold back his tears – The moment is very difficult. Never in my life have I taken advantage of any position. I don’t know what I’m accused of, except by the press.”
