The State Police of Caserta has reported an 18-year-old of North African origin on the loose, believed to be the author of the defacement of the façade of the Royal Palace of Casert, which occurred during the night between last Tuesday and Wednesday. The young man had painted a wall of the Palace with black spray paint.

After the report to 113, around 2 am, police officers from the Flying Squad intervened on site to reconstruct what had happened. Thanks to the immediate investigations launched together with the Flying Squad, both of a technical and informative nature, and also based on the analysis of the Palace’s video surveillance systems, it was possible to identify a young man, who escaped with an electric bicycle.

The boy, who had recently come of age, was identified and traced to his home and taken to the police station for the ritual procedures. The 18-year-old was reported to be free for the defacement of the artistic property, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

COMPLIMENTS FROM MINISTER SANGIULIANO. «I want to express my compliments and those of the Ministry of Culture to the State Police for promptly identifying the alleged person responsible for the defacement of a portion of the wall on the façade of the Royal Palace of Caserta. The Ministry will become a civil party in the proceedings against this person who will be called to answer for what has been done also on the basis of the new legislation, which I strongly supported, according to which anyone who damages the cultural heritage will also have to pay the costs for the restoration of the damage”. This was stated by the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano.
