Viterbo, wild boars: “Municipality close to a solution, but it still involves culling the wild boars”

The administration is evaluating “the least bloody solution” but it will most likely still lead to the slaughter of the animals

VITERBO – While the Council of Ministers has already prepared an army intervention team to combat the swine fever emergency, a solution is also being sought in Viterbo for the pressing issue that keeps many Viterbo residents awake.

The possible resolution was presented by councilor Marco Nunzi in the city council, who was keen to reiterate how the administration has worked on the problem since he took office.

“The problem is now national – declared Nunzi – but since we took office in 2022 the mayor made a resolution that included various points which brought a notable improvement on the part of those who respected it”.

According to Nunzi and the administration, the problem is mainly linked to the Arcianello nature reserve, “a corridor that allows wild boars to enter the city”.

The administration, however, also with the support of Unitus, is working on a less “bloody” intervention as possible. “There is a less invasive way – specified Nunzi – which always involves killing the animal using narcotic darts. In the next few days there will be another technical table, convened together with the Prefecture, Province and ASL to understand whether it is possible to intervene in this way. This problem cannot be solved forever, but we will try to stem it decisively. A 90% resolution is imminent.”
