The pupils of the King of Caltanissetta meet the fencer Andrea Martorana for the national project “Paralympic Sport at school” promoted by CIP
Day 15 May 2024 in the “Pietro Leone” secondary school complex of the “Martin Luther King” comprehensive institute in Caltanissetta, the students of the first, second and third classes participated in a meeting with the paralympic fencer of the Fencing Group Nisseno Andrea Martorana to raise awareness, disseminate Paralympic culture and encourage disabled and non-disabled students to start sporting activities. The children were able to learn about Andrea’s story and appreciate his great willpower, spirit of sacrifice and athletic qualities that allowed him to triumph at the Regional Sword Championships in 2023. The students were also able to appreciate his fencing skills first hand by Andrea Martorana, thanks to a practical demonstration with the athlete Viola Sorriso, of the Nisseno Fencing Group, who also had the kids try foil shooting. Also present at the meeting was the provincial delegate of the Cip (Italian Paralympic Committee) of Caltanissetta Sergio Maria Marchese who said he was very enthusiastic about having participated in the event and underlined the importance of such experiences for the promotion of national sport and above all for Paralympic activities. The “Martin Luther King” Institute, led by the Director Prof. Daniela Rizzotto, has always been attentive to the inclusion and valorization of every person and for this reason carries out projects that help achieve this objective.
