Twentieth Century Architecture Festival, the project presented in LATINA

In Latina the 20th century Architecture Festival, an event to be held thanks to the contribution already given by the Chamber of Commerce and thanks to the approval already received from the Ministry of Culture.

The project, included in the dossier that saw the city of Latina in the final of the national competition for Italian Capital of Culture 2026, was presented this afternoon to the city councilors of the Culture commission, chaired by Claudio Di Matteo. Speaking on the topic were the councilor for Urban Planning Annalisa Muzio, the architect Daniela Cavallo, who drew up the candidacy dossier, and Dr. Antonia Lo Rillo, director of the Cambellotti museum, who last week took part in the masterclass “Cantiere città ” organized by the Ministry of Culture and open to the finalist cities to enhance the candidacy project and implement at least one of the initiatives in the dossiers.

Also present in the commission in today’s session were the architects Massimo Palumbo and Paolo Costanzo, respectively president and member of the Culture commission of the Order of Architects of Latina, and the engineer Enrico Ferracci, secretary of the Order of Engineers of Latina.

“The idea of ​​the Twentieth Century Architecture Festival – explained councilor Muzio – was born during the preparation of the candidacy, recognizing the architectural identity of the city of Latina. The result was a project which, for its implementation, received a contribution of 50 thousand euros from the Frosinone-Latina Chamber of Commerce which made the same amount available for both the two Pontine finalist cities, Latina and Gaeta. In Rome, last week, at the ‘Cantiere città’, the 20th century Architecture Festival received great appreciation, so much so that it suggested we move forward in this direction”.

Councilor Muzio and architect Cavallo, during the session of the Culture commission of the Piazza del Popolo institution, explained that the project financed by the Chamber of Commerce involves the creation of events, first of all the establishment of a prize entitled to “Luigi Piccinato”, thus giving the festival an international character also through the lectio magistralis that the winner will have to give. Planned are the activation of the “Urban&Green Design” laboratory for architects under 40, the staging of a multimedia exhibition with all the drawings and projects of Oriolo Frezzotti, kept in the archives of the Cambellotti Museum, the creation of itineraries for the use and valorisation of the ‘Architecture of the twentieth century in Latina, curated by the professional associations. Among the many initiatives developed and others in the planning phase and open to the participation of citizens, the recovery of the work of mapping the “farmhouses” with clarification of the rural architectural style, identity of Latina, city and territory was also highlighted.

The project immediately received the interest of the Lazio Region and the Ministry of Culture, through the ‘Cantiere città’ masterclass. The festival will also allow us to raise awareness of the founding architecture of our city abroad and to make Latina attractive. Last but not least, I thank the president of the Chamber of Commerce Giovanni Acampora who from the beginning supported us in our candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture, even supporting us economically”.
