The Cuneo Montagna Festival is also music – The Guide

Opens Friday 17 May the long weekend of the Cuneo Montagna Festival. From 9am to 12pm and in the afternoon from 3pm to 6pm, the‘Assembly of Alpine Cities. Together with delegations from France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Slovenia, the topic will be addressed: “Prospects for a new relationship between Alpine cities and mountain territories”.
Presentation of the project at 5pm at Baladin “Mountain Therapy – A story of integration in the mountains” with the ACLI of Cuneo and the Mental Health Department of the ASL Cn1.
At 6pm at Baladin we will continue with the presentation of the book “Futurism” (Raetia) by Michil Costa who will explain to us how the repercussions of the tourist monoculture are evident especially in the Alps: congested roads, empty second homes, which cause real estate prices to rise, ski lifts and slopes on every peak, ruthless competition between hotel structures .
At 9pm the show promoted by Espaci Occitan will be staged in the Sala San Giovanni, directed by Diego Anghilante, “AbeioAbeio”. A drama which, taking inspiration from the phenomenon of the return of young people to the mountains and rural life, tells the unhappy story of Louren (Lorenzo), a young man from Turin who abandons his university status to return to live in Saluzzo.
Cinema Monviso will first host the screening of “Italy K2”, a 1955 film by M. Baldi and then a meeting with Anna Torretta and Silvia Loreggian. The two mountaineers are part of an Italian-Pakistani team also made up of Federica Mingolla, Cristina Piolini and four Pakistani mountaineers (Samina Baig, Amina Bano, Nadeema Sahar and Samana Rahim) accompanied by the doctor Lorenza Pratali. Seventy years after the Italian conquest of K2 in 1954, the team will once again attempt the feat of reaching the summit. Torretta and Loreggian will tell the public about the project to conquer K2. The event is in collaboration with the CAI of Cuneo and Nuovi Mondi Festival.
Also at 9pm, but at the Toselli Theatre, the evening will be staged “Animalpina in music”. First the Corale la Baita, choir of the Cuneo CAI section, will perform. At 9.45pm official ceremony for the awarding of the title of Alpine City of the Year 2024 in Cuneo and passing of the baton from the French city of Passy. The Occitan music concert will conclude at 10.15pm “Sonaires Occitans Sonaires De Rota” curated by Sergio Berardo and Occit’amo Festival.
