Civitavecchia: two inmates beat up two of his cellmates in anger, creating chaos inside the prison of the town on the outskirts of Rome. One of the victims of the beating was seriously injured and required hospital treatment. Four people were injured, including a penitentiary police inspector.

To restore calm inside the Civitavecchia prison, the prison police had great difficulties and only with a massive intervention of officers, with even an inspector injured in the fray, what could have been a massacre was avoided.
Together with the inspector, a prison assistant was also injured, both hospitalized and reported with several days of prognosis, in the brawl that broke out last Monday.
In addition to the four injured, therefore, this episode of vulgar violence also caused several damages inside the prison, in a situation that is increasingly burdensome and the prison system, not only in Civitavecchia, has been collapsing for some time.
Poor staffing, with few staff, they often have to deal with events like this, with devastating violence that is compromising order and security within the prison.
The protest fueled by FNS Cisl Lazio to raise public awareness of the dramatic situation, highlights the need for a reform of the prison system: “We are no longer available to witness and suffer the degradation experienced by the penitentiary system, because there is no civilization in a country that does not deal with the fact that minimum rules of dignity and safety are unique values that are also valid within penitentiaries”.
