POTENZA – TIM accelerates optical fiber in the province of Potenza and through FiberCop, the Group’s infrastructure company, gives impetus to the cabling interventions envisaged by the «1 Giga Italy Plan» as part of the PNRR to bring «ultrabroadband» connections to 93 municipalities in the territory. The objective is to connect with optical fiber over 51 thousand house numbers located in the areas identified by the tender.

The temporary business grouping (RTI), made up of TIM and FiberCop, was awarded 7 lots of the «Italy 1 Giga Plan» tender for a total of 10 regions, including Basilicata, plus the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

The overall investment in Basilicata is expected to be around 130 million euros, of which around 91 are public contributions through PNRR funds and 39 from the TIM Group. The municipalities of Basilicata affected by the interventions for the construction of the ultra-fast networks envisaged by the «Italy 1 Giga Plan» are a total of 120.

This is an ambitious project with stringent implementation times that require full integration and collaboration between all the parties involved and particular attention to the peculiarities of the territory and the dimensions of the intervention.

To date, in the province of Potenza, work has already started in 33 municipalities, while the completion of the plan is expected by June 2026.

«Ultra-fast networks are a crucial factor for the economic development and digital transformation of territories – declares Roberto Chiappini, head of Operations South Area of TIM -. The opening of the construction sites in the province of Potenza marks the start of an important model of collaboration between all the actors involved, a fundamental element for an intervention of this scale. This is an important challenge that requires a great organizational effort on the part of our company to wire over 51 thousand house numbers at the conclusion of the Plan. For this reason we have already implemented a series of important actions to support local contracting companies and strengthened our internal design structures with the aim of speeding up the execution of the works as much as possible. It is also necessary that all the bodies involved are sensitive to the importance and scope of the plan.”

TIM, through FiberCop, thus continues its journey to create an “ultrabroadband” network across the entire national territory. FiberCop already guarantees coverage of over 94% of fixed lines through FTTC and FTTH technologies and will continue to develop FTTH coverage, with connection speeds of up to 10 Gigabit/s, with the aim of reaching approximately 60% of units real estate on a national basis.
