Rider house in a land in via Palmieri in Florence, the assignment arrives from the Municipality. This morning I meet CGIL with councilor Funaro. The union: “It will be both a place of shelter, refreshment and rest (in which it will be possible to recharge work tools and carry out small repairs to bikes) and – given that the cycle workers are mainly of foreign origin – a multifunctional center with consultancy offices capable of orienting, supporting and directing people with a migratory background”
With the assignment by the Municipality of Florence of the fund located in via Palmieri 11, riders will finally have a “Home” in Florence too.
This morning the CGIL, together with a delegation of riders, met there with the Councilor for Welfare and Immigration of the Municipality of Florence, Sara Funaro, to start the project that will lead to the opening of the Rider House after the summer, once they have settled and set up the premises.
This space is intended to be a place of shelter and rest open during the afternoon, where it will be possible to recharge work tools, carry out small repairs to bikes, refresh oneself, have access to water and toilets.
The Casa Rider of Florence, considering that the majority of cycle drivers come from third countries, has a further great ambition: to be a multifunctional center with consultancy desks capable of orienting, supporting and directing people with a migratory background, to provide an initial response on work, housing, legal and social issues, promoting the services of the Municipality of Florence, other public institutions and the network of associations present in the Florentine territory.
To this end, the CGIL of Florence will establish a partnership network with other local organizations involved in the protection of migrant people, providing the space with specialized operators.
We set ourselves the great challenge of protecting food delivery workers by looking at their needs as a whole, to relaunch our commitment to obtaining full rights in this sector, welcoming and supporting people with a migratory background and combating phenomena of labor exploitation.
