The regional decree dates back to 9 April and today Irfis FinSicilia, in charge of managing the benefits, published the public notice for obtaining the extraordinary contributions linked to the damage caused by last summer’s fires. It is a measure that the Region wanted with an increase in the ceiling of the Sicily Fund and which provides for the overall disbursement of 2.9 million euros, as part of the stability law approved last January, to citizens who have suffered damage to its real estate and movable assets following the heat wave and fires that hit the provinces of Catania, Messina, Palermo and Trapani from 23 July 2023. At the time, an ordinance had been issued by the Civil Protection for such calamitous events.
What does the public notice provide?
To access the contribution it is necessary to be the owner of the goods and the damage suffered must have been communicated before the date of the regional decree of 9 April. Funds albeit with limitations. For the restoration of the owner’s main home the contribution cannot exceed 50 thousand euros, in the event that the home is different from the owner’s main home the limit is 25 thousand euros. For the restoration of the common parts of a residential building the limit is 15 thousand euros for each building and while for the compensation of expenses relating to the restoration or replacement of destroyed or damaged movable property located in the damaged real estate unit, intended for the main residence of the owner or the holder of a real or personal right of enjoyment, the maximum limit is 5 thousand euros. “With this provision – stated the President of the Region Renato Schifani – my government demonstrates concrete closeness to all those citizens who suffered damage during those terrible days last summer. We will never be able to forget the wounds inflicted on our island by the criminal fury of the arsonists, the victims and the pain of those who saw their homes go up in smoke. And it is precisely them, with these contributions, that we want to remind them that they are not alone, that the regional government is at the service of Sicilians, above all, in times of difficulty”.
