Checks in a workshop and a bakery in Catania: out of 5 employees, 4 worked illegally

The carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Catania, with colleagues from the Catania “Nesima” station, supported by colleagues from the 12th Regiment “Sicily” and with the collaboration of colleagues from the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Catania, the staff of the Local Police and the ASP of Catania, they carried out some inspections on entrepreneurial activities in the area. In particular, within a mechanical workshop, some irregularities were found which led to the complaint of the owner, a 48 year old from Catania, for “omitted health surveillance” of employees. In fact, during the inspection of the company, the Carabinieri discovered that the only employee involved in repairing cars was an “illegal” worker, without an employment contract, a circumstance which triggered the maxi fine for the owner.

During a similar inspection, carried out for a bakery in the area, the military ascertained how, among the 5 workers present, 4 were “under the table” or worked without an employment contract from the owner, a 47-year-old from Catania, for the which triggered the expected maxi sanctions for illegal work.

Overall, at the end of the checks, fines of almost 3 thousand euros and various administrative sanctions of over 10 thousand euros were imposed on the two owners.
