Vlahovic’s goal gives the trophy to the Bianconeri and Allegri makes history by winning the cup for the fifth time as coach
Juventus confirms itself as queen of the Italian Cup by winning its 15th victory in the history of the tournament. In the final played at the Olympic stadium in Rome, Max Allegri’s team defeated Atalanta 1-0, thanks to the decisive goal from center forward Dusan Vlahovic.
But Juventus’ success also has a special meaning for its coach, Max Allegri, who becomes the first manager in the history of Italian football to win the Italian Cup five times. With this result, Allegri surpasses the previous record held by Sven-Göran Eriksson and Roberto Mancini, both stuck at four victories.
For Gasperini’s Atalanta, however, the final turns into a bitter awakening. Despite a competitive season, the Nerazzurri failed to win the trophy, but will try to make up for it in the Europa League on 22 May in Dublin, where they will face Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
