“Do you smoke? No thanks!”, a round table on addictions at the Palazzetto dei Nobili

THE EAGLE – “Do you smoke? No thank you! Not starting is better than quitting.” The event on May 18th (5pm, Palazzetto dei Nobili) aims to address a serious and underestimated topic: cigarette smoking and addictions in general.

In Italy every six minutes a person dies due to smoking, in Abruzzo we count almost 10 thousand deaths every year and many more chronically ill people. Of the 12 million Italian smokers, 2 million are under 20 years old and the age at which they light the first cigarette has dropped to 11 years!

“It’s time to say enough! Prevention is better than cure, a simple truth that unfortunately in our country struggles to establish itself in daily practice. As a non-profit organization Antonio Padovani we have therefore decided to do our part, working together with the “Women’s Health” and “Men’s Health” Volunteer Organizations, starting from prevention, because the best cigarette is the one never smoked!

Let’s start with the round table of May 18th (5.00 pm, Palazzetto dei Nobili) which will see the participation of highly qualified experts, and in particular Dr. Paul Carducci, specialist in Internal Medicine and Pneumology and Dr Laura Pizzorno, UOSD manager of Breast Surgery. The economist moderates Piero Carducciauthor of numerous volumes for primary education for the Lisciani publishing house”.

“We will discuss together with the public present the devastating effects of cigarette smoking but above all prevention, distributing a brochure created ad hoc by the organizing non-profit organizations and written by Paolo Carducci, a truly precious tool for starting the subsequent prevention campaign. A short bookrichly illustrated and never banal, scientifically impeccable, with lots of information on smoking and new myths, such as the presumed harmlessness of the electronic cigarette, and useful indications for protecting health and life.

The booklet will be distributed free of charge to those present at the initiative on 18 May.

Our project to fight against cigarette smoking does not stop here, and is divided into various activities which, starting from the presentation of the basic booklet for educational campaigns, includes training in schools, workshops and communication opportunities aimed above all at very young people. to raise their awareness of the damage caused by smoking and educate them in critical reasoning that protects them against all addictions, modern forms of slavery in today’s consumerist society”.

The event “Do you smoke? No thank you! Not starting is better than stopping.” it is aimed in particular at families with children and adolescents, grandparents with grandchildren, teachers, educators in general and administrators. The fight against addictions, which are increasingly devastating for the very young, requires not only a multidisciplinary scientific approach but also the support of all social agents!

“We want to do this without using a paternalistic approach and emphasizing the positive aspects of a smoke-free world. We want to do it because prevention is living! Your commitment is important too! We look forward to seeing you on May 18th!”. As Gianni Padovani, President of the Onlus Antonio Padovani and Maria Rita Liaci, President of the Onlus Women’s and Men’s Health.
