Two individuals pretend to be Carabinieri to defraud a pensioner from Messinamanaging to steal gold and costume jewelery worth over 500 euros, and then flee in a rental car.

The plan, however, fortunately came to naught due to the intervention of the real Carabinieri who managed to block and arrest, in flagrante delicto, the two criminals, both citizens of Campania, with criminal records, who now have to answer for the crime of aggravated fraud in competition.

THE USUAL MODUS OPERANDI

According to what was reconstructed by the Carabinieri, in recent days, the two individuals contacted the victim by telephone and, with the “excuse” of a fake road accident caused by her nephew, asked her for money which
they would have been used to pay the lawyer for the relative’s defense. When, shortly afterwards, the two subjects showed up at the house, the woman, frightened by what they had told her on the phone, not having immediate access to cash, gathered together all the valuable objects she owned and handed them over to the two individuals. who then left in a car, which appeared to be rented.

THE INCONVENIENCE

However, the two criminals came across an inspection by the Carabinieri, who were engaged in a prevention service. They were then found in possession of the stolen goods, which were returned to the woman. Instead, they were taken to the barracks and held in the security rooms. The arrest of the two was validated by the Judge who ordered the obligation to reside in the municipalities of residence.
