Language enhancement courses for teachers at Ciliberto-Lucifero ~ CrotoneOk.it

Crotone – The innovation and internationalization process started thanks to the Erasmus+ short-term mobility project for staff and students (KA122) continues at full speed at Ciliberto-Lucifer directed by the school principal Girolamo Arcuri. In recent days three teachers of the institute, Antonio Cacozza of Mechanics, Rossella De Vuono of English and Antonella Fossetto of Business Economics together with the headmaster they participated in courses for linguistic improvement in English also with the Clil (Content and language integrated learning) methodology at the training institution ITC International of Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, active in the adult education sector since 1996 with training courses for teachers conducted with innovative teaching methods.

This training responds to the dual need to raise the degree of internationalization of the institute, increasing the English language skills of the participants and above all modernizing the teaching – learning paths through innovative methodological courses such as the Clil methodology in order to create attractive lessons in English in non-linguistic disciplines, according to an interdisciplinary approach. In short, what is learned will have a positive impact on teaching methods and consequently on those who benefit from it: the students.

The Clil methodology, the teaching of a non-linguistic subject conveyed in a foreign language, is considered an innovative approach to language teaching, as it allows students to be exposed to the foreign language while learning the contents of non-linguistic subjects. The course, structured in seventeen modules, was centered on the practical aspects of this teaching technique, including the use of strategies of scaffolding, the integration of the four language skills and assessment and included a series of workshops based on discussions, activities and practical suggestions on how to implement Clil in schools. Therefore, the participants, experiencing the activities from the students’ point of view, had the opportunity to design teaching units and implement them during a micro-teaching session.

The training organization also offered participants the opportunity to take a guided tour of the city of Prague and visit a local school.

Arcuri, together with the three teachers involved in the training, expressed maximum satisfaction with the excellent organization and quality of the training training courses abroadand for having had the opportunity to enrich their personal and professional skills, and gain confidence in using Clil methods in classes and teaching through a foreign language.

The mobility also gave them the opportunity to have intercultural learning experiences, comparing themselves with colleagues of other nationalities of theEuropean Union (France, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain) with whom to exchange ideas and build networks for future international cooperation, not without acquiring a broader understanding of the practices, policies and educational systems of different countries, in the name of multilingualism.

All in the magnificent setting of one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in Europe, rich in history and legends, culture, literature and architecture, famous for its picturesque and elegant cobbled streets, splendid buildings and romantic corners.
