The violent wave of bad weather that hit the center of the region also reached eastern Veneto during the night.
They occurred very heavy rainfallparticularly on coastal area between Jesolo, Caorle and in thearea of San Michele al Tagliamento.
Flooding has been reported in Jesolo between the town and the Lido, particularly in the areas of Piazza Trieste and Piazza Marconi. Furthermore, flooding of basements and rooms of homes and commercial activities was reported. The Municipality of Jesolo has therefore decided to postpone the activation of the summer restricted traffic zone in via Bafile until May 23rd.
«During the night and also in these hours there were heavy rainfalls which put the rainwater disposal network in heavy difficulty and caused flooding in basements and rooms of homes and businesses which are below zero level both on the beach and in country – he declares the mayor of Jesolo, Christofer De Zotti -. In the early hours of the morning we updated ourselves with the Fire Brigade who informed us that the emptying activity following reports was already underway and there are various other interventions in the queue. As soon as possible we will activate the Jesolo Civil Protection volunteers to support the firefighters’ activity. At the moment there has been no serious damage to people. If necessary, use the emergency numbers. We are keeping the situation monitored.”
“Over the course of the night, the previously announced disturbance, which had already hit the central western part of the Veneto yesterday, began to significantly affect our area with even very intense rainfall, in particular on the coastal area between Jesolo and Caorle and in the area of San Michele al Tagliamento where rainfall quantities of over 80 mm were recorded, but with peaks that exceeded 30 mm in an hour (30 liters per square meter) – we read in a note from the reclamation consortium of eastern Veneto -. They are currently reported widespread flooding of agricultural areas around Cesarolo and Marinella, as well as in the Cortellazzo and Cavallino and Brussa areas, due to the intense rains that fell on already saturated soilthe. The 80 water pumping plants spread across the territory are all active as the hydrometric levels of the reclamation network are very high, even if for now there are no reports of flooding, and the team on call is constantly monitoring a situation which, unfortunately, will continue to be problematic throughout the day”.
