The traditional XCO event organized at the Polisportiva took place on Sunday 12 May
A Sunday to remember for the “Gaetano Cavallaro” sports club which achieved successes both from the point of view
both competitive and organizational on the occasion of the XX Neanderthal Cup.
Organized on May 12th by the Bisceglie cycling association chaired by Francesco Piccolo, the competition
has confirmed itself as one of the most characteristic and sought-after off-road races in the Cross-Country discipline
Southern Italy Olympic.
Now in its twentieth edition and held in the characteristic blade of Santa Croce in the countryside of Bisceglie,
the “Neanderthal Cup” involved numerous participants in a spectacular and adrenaline-filled circuit
about 5 kilometers immersed in the nature and history of the area, thus creating a unique event also for
the large audience present.
This year the race was selected among the tests that assign the national TopClass score, as well as
represent the eighth round of the “Challenge XCO Puglia” regional circuit. At the event they have
A total of 140 athletes from Puglia, Basilicata, Campania and Calabria participated.
There were two races scheduled: the first aimed at the Beginners and Students categories, the other for the categories
Juniores, Under 23, Elite and Amateurs. The first to start were the athletes from the plus categories
young people (beginners and students), engaged over the distance of the 3 laps of the race.
The overall winner of the first start was Walter Vaglio of the Tugliese Cycling School who
dominated the race, finishing in first position among the 1st year students. In this category the Polisportiva
“Gaetano Cavallaro” fielded Adam Abdelsamad Ibrahim Mohamed at the start who finished in 14th
position.
In the 2nd year student category, the winner was Ivan Diomede of ASD Fusion Bike. Supporter of an excellent race
in the same category also Leonardo de Toma of the Polisportiva “Gaetano Cavallaro”, 11th at the finish line.
In the women’s category the first to finish the race was Alessia Russo of Team Go Fast Puglia –
Aradeo in the 1st year Beginners category, while for the 2nd year category the success went to Hoara
Digiulio of the ASD Masters MTB Martina Franca. Among the female students, the winner was Martina Berardi of ASD
Velosprint Barletta.
In the 1st year Beginners category the race was won by Oscar Carrer of ASD Fusion Bike, while in the
in the same category, the “Gaetano Cavallaro” sports club recorded an excellent 6th position with Gabriele Losciale;
finally, the 2nd year Beginners’ race went to Marco Sicuro of the Cycling School
Tugliese, while for the Polisportiva “Gaetano Cavallaro” Daniel Amoruso ends his effort, despite
a fall, in 15th position.
In the second start the athletes of the Juniores, Under23 and Elite categories started. The dominator
overall winner of the race was the Under23 Vittorio Carrer of ASD Fusion Bike. In the Elite category the athlete of
Polisportiva “Gaetano Cavallaro” Leonardo Santeramo took first place, repeated in the
Junior women’s category by Emilia Musci, also a representative of the “Gaetano Cavallaro” sports club,
first at the finish line.
Finally, in the Junior men’s category the race was won by Michelangelo Parisi of PRO.GI.T Cycling
Team, followed in 5th position by Andrea Marino (Polisportiva Cavallaro), protagonist in turn
an authoritative performance.
