Val d’Agri and Valle del Bradano, interventions by the Carabinieri: a 64-year-old Italian and a 37-year-old Romanian under house arrest
Two stories of abuses kept hidden within the home. Two women harassed by their partners who mistreated them.
The stories of these two women intersect in the space of a single weekend on the Carabinieri emergency telephone line: a 37-year-old Italian from Val D’Agri and a 39-year-old Romanian citizen residing in the Bradano Valley. In the first case it was the victim who asked for help on Nue 112, in the second a relative who had heard the woman sound a little “strange” on the phone and, in the background, a male voice screaming. The Carabinieri of the Viggiano and Acerenza Companies intervened quickly and, upon arriving on site, they could only notice the marks left on the bodies of the two women and then entrusted them to the care of the 118 health workers who ascertained their state of health by verifying the injuries they had suffered. .
The initial reticence of the victims, perhaps due to modesty, dissolved before the Carabinieri investigators who were thus able to reconstruct the ordeals experienced by the two women, triggering the measures envisaged by the “Code Red” protocol, arresting, after the formalities as usual, the two men.
The Italian citizen was placed in the district prison of Potenza and the Romanian citizen under house arrest, at the disposal of the Potenza Judicial Authority.
Both validation hearings, held before the investigating judge of the Court of Potenza, ratified the arrests carried out by the Carabinieri, ordering the precautionary measure of house arrest for both, with the clarification that, against the two suspects, the presumption of innocence applies until sentencing final conviction.
Two different stories and geographically distant from each other but with a common denominator: the use of the Single Emergency Number 112 to put an end to the brutality suffered up to that moment and return to freedom.
